L’Oreal Studio salt spray review

I bought some L'Oreal Studio 'Matt and Messy shine free salt spray' as an addition to my rather sparse collection of hair care products. My hair has a natural wave to it these days and I really love the idea of giving it a good spritz and a scrunch then being good to go. The first salt spray I bought (reviewed here) was a bit of a disappointment, with my hair looking a bit odd which I think was partly due to a poor nozzle as opposed to the product. This L'Oreal spray has a far better nozzle and the spray comes out in a nice even mist. It does seem to give my hair more of a curl once applied, which is exactly what I'm looking for. It is classified as a 2 out of 5 for hold, which I suppose is about right although it does seem to keep the hair in much the same shape all day, but if you're trying to create more volume than you naturally have then it's not going to cut the mustard. My hair does feel a bit tacky to start with then just very matt, with the tendency for the roots to look greasier so I try not to spray too high.

All in all I have to say that I really love this product as it does everything I want. Going out with a kind of messy head of hair is pretty much standard for me so just enhancing it with this spray is ideal. There is one whopper of a negative though: the stench when you spray it on. Good grief! It really is vile. The smell is kind of chemically and if I accidently breathe too close I have quite a cough. Do it outside or by an open window, that's my advice! Once it's actually on and dry there is virtually no residual stink but really, how hard would it have been to add some yummy flavouring?

Which salt sprays would you recommend? This was not a sponsored post, I bought this with my own money.
