The Summer joke

There are those summer days which totally backfire and leave you massively disappointed an Friday was one of those times. By some serendipitous coincidence both Chris and I were left free early on that sizzling hot afternoon, 27 degrees, sunny and beautiful. In keeping with my ethos of squeezing every last bit of enjoyment out of the season I announced we were dropping everything and heading to the beach; changing into my new bikini and cover-up dress, grabbing beach towels, book and (obviously) camera. We'd forgotten the on-going road works on the main road, although we mostly avoided them with a bumpy back-road shortcut. It's been a while since we've hit the east coast of Norfolk and I'd pretty much forgotten which beach it was that I used to enjoy going to so we ended up at Hembsy North beach which upon arrival looked a little less than inviting, and judging my the aggressive way that flags were billowing, seemed to have something of a breeze blowing.

It was freezing. Honestly, the car said 20 degrees but with a STRONG Northerly wind, no sun and a sea fog to boot it was utterly miserable. I had a rummage in the car for layers, finding this cardigan and scarf thank goodness, although no tights. It was too cold to sit still, we had to walk, walk, walk along the concrete promenade to stay warm enough. Some mad people were swimming in the grey choppy sea which seemed unfathomable; I couldn't bear to watch.

There are plenty of things to do in the less joyous weather this summer; how about a trip to Sheringham Little Theatre, which has a Summer Reperotory programme of five plays on between now and 6th September which sounds so fabulous. I do hope I can make it along to a couple!

You can also enter the Norfolk Trails Photography Competition which runs from now until the end of September. I think I'll be entering, I quite like the idea of becoming a prizewinning photographer a second time. Not even joking.

There are about a million things I want to share with you right now, but bear with me; time is of the essence and there is a distinct shortage of it at the moment.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone, let me know your plans!
