A walk from Creake Abbey

Walking near Burnham Market at Creake Abbey
Last Sunday was utterly delightful. A day to get out in the fresh warm air to make the most of the glorious day. In fact it was a most productive day; walking Lincoln, pottering in the greenhouse and being inspired to wear roses in my hair. After concluding that our usual haunts were either flooded, boggy or busy, we decided to take a drive out to Creake Abbey near Burnham Market for something to eat at Creake Abbey Cafe which always offers a delightful range of eats from soup and a sandwich to a roast. (We ate a roast, perfect!)

Whilst inside, I noticed there were printed out sheets of a walk to be taken from the Cafe. Just what we needed! I recommend you pop in for a bite or a coffee too!

It was touch and go whether I left at all, the selection of cakes and teas were so close...

The Abbey itself is still standing in part, impressively so. One day we will have to explore inside some more, it's free.

Walking across the fields was quiet, although apparently there is sometimes livestock grazing. We made sure there wasn't but if this puts you off a little then a bit of walking on the road can avoid this.
The early spring weather really brought out the colour.

The long, long road. Quiet, almost completely empty for the duration of time we walked.

The water meadows seemed to be a temporary home to the migrating geese but I'm sure there is a fair bit to see all year round.

Call me stupid, but I had no idea where Nelson's birthplace was, so this sign was a surprise! How curious to see where such a prominent historical figure was born. As it turns out, just a plaque remains, no building. But I suppose that is allowable.

I didn't manage to capture it well but this meadow held many rabbits grazing in the sunshine, it was lovely.

A bank of cheery yellow daffodils, basking in the sunshine.

A wall that bridged the flow, very cute.

I really enjoy a new walk. I'm looking forward to returning again soon, not least for coffee and a big slice of cake, shhhh!
