Snowdrops in bloom abundently

Snowdrops in bloom
On Saturday we ventured out in the drab, murky weather to see for ourselves the carpet of snowdrops in bloom. Winter patience has paid off; the pearly white heads are strewn about the floor like a string necklace has been torn from it's wearer and have scattered to every corner. Little treasures glinting in glee at their escape from the confines of the jewellery box.

Aren't they such a welcome sight after the dormant winter months? Although white is technically not a colour, it's a welcome sign of lie; adding some gorgeous delicate new growth to the landscape.

It is traditionally considered unlucky to bring snowdrops inside the house as they can represent death - I read that somewhere- but presumably that is because they are seen prolifically in churchyards.  I did get down and stoop  and wobble in an attempt to sniff a bunch in bloom. It is surprisingly hard to get your nose that low without knees touching the deck. Alas, I can report back that I couldn't smell anything. I shall persist.

Oh they're such a joy to behold. The pricks of yellow (are they aconites?) make an even more delightful sight.

A church display; elegant simplicity. When (if, to be realistic) our garden bulbs flower I might hope to display some in a similiar way.

Get out and see some for yourself. If in doubt, they are almost certainly some in a churchyard. Besides, half the fun is in the hunting.
