Permafrost

We have a light winter compared to those endured back in history. The winters where lakes and rivers froze over, where the ground was frozen solid and life was lived at the very extreme of existence. It doesn't bear thinking about; the coldness seeping into your bones and the unrelenting darkness.
These days I throw a tantrum if snow dares to settle on the road for a day and makes it difficult to drive my car to and fro, how ridiculous. The cold and crisp mornings hold an enchanting beauty in 2018 but with the likelihood of ice crystals melting within an hour of sunrise. I really shouldn't complain.
Take care,
Sophie
