The allotment glows

It's rare we go more than a day, let alone two without visiting the allotment. Whether it's to bring supplies, fetch a harvest, tinker with something, just oiking out a few weeds or  a poke around to see what's new there is always a reason to attend. I snap away with my camera often enough but hardly ever share the pictures which tend to get repetitive, Here's some I've enjoyed over the past few weeks.

A broccoli went to flower in grand style.
We're rotting horse manure. Mushrooms keep popping up.

This is our second largest cabbage. 20p for scale. It's been a good cabbage year - and these are supposed to be January harvesting cabbages.
A new crop of swede should be ready in the next month or so.
The evening sunshine makes the plot glow.

I have now pulled up the exhausted squash plants, but they looked very pretty at their prime.
Saturday was my day for tending the tommies. The outdoor plants had grown out of control and were overdue some serious attention. I pulled off surplus leaves and stems. There are so many fruit ripening, they taste fabulous.

Stray leek going to seed.

The sweet peas were quite unloved this year. I must do better next year,
The zinnias bring the boldest colours

Last flush from the statice

Virtually no flowers have been cut this year to be displayed in the house. My heart wasn't in it and I didn't overthink the matter. We'll see how I feel next season.
Take care,
Sophie
