Do you remember when I told you that we'd taken a walk on the beach the weekend before Christmas? It was wonderfully quiet, empty, vacant. We spent time at leisure just strolling and dawdling; taking photographs and pausing for thought. I like to stop abruptly and take a look around.
This yellow boat has perhaps seen better days. I can relate in some ways.

The light behind the pines was gorgeous and made for a favourite picture of some of the beach huts.
The picture above is from our empty walk before Christmas. The sands were predominantly unencumbered; with just a few people in eyeshot at any one time. So quiet and still. Below is a picture from New Year's Day when I foolishly decide to go back for fresh air. This was at the point of Wells blending into Holkham; the place which is usually devoid of human life save for the most resolute of walkers who bridge the gap between the two beaches. There were swarms of people! New Year's Day had to be my most miserable and regrettable day out in a long time. The entire world seemed to have descended upon the coast to see in the new year which meant that parking was an absolute shambles (we queued for a while) and the time meant we couldn't walk into the town for food or would miss all the light. We paid a fortune to park. The beach cafe was packed with an enormous queue. We walked as far as we could, until the tide dictated we return to the car tired and hungry.
