We have been lucky on the allotment to find ourselves with wildlife sightings each year. The grass snake lives close by, though it never ceases to surprise me when I should find myself face to face with the beastie herself (or himself). Sometimes I lift up leaves of rhubarb or squashes to find a snakeskin having been shed which nearly makes me jump out of my skin. Snakes don't scare me, I find them fascinating. Of course just the wild ones.
Anything tropical or huge can frankly keep a good distance away but our native and local grass snake and I are pals. She likes our compost bin. Excellent looking compost if I do say so myself.

What's given you a surprise?

Take care,

  1. Both the snake and the compost look gooooood!!! I was surprised by a slow worm in my compost when I lived in my old house- I was glad it was one pf those and not a snake though!

  2. I came face to face with a snake in the flowerbed beneath my kitchen window. I wasn't scared but I wasn't that pleased either. I like the deer, hares, bunnies, birds, and butterflies we get here but snakes are pushing it a bit for me. I had a mad Google 'what do grass snakes look like?' 'do grass snakes bite?' 'do grass snakes attack cats?' 'do cats attack grass snakes?' haha, it's funny now I look back on it...
