The brand new flower plot in 2019

Monday, February 11, 2019

Something that I have high hopes for this year is the flower plot. We took over an abandoned half plot at the allotments at the end of the season last year with the intention of me creating a whole cutting garden there. So much space! I've been growing flowers for two seasons now and this year will be bigger than ever. It's a blank canvas.

Some of these pictures are from last year, the year before and some are not my flowers at all.
I've decided to grow a mix of everything I like. Annuals, biennials and perennials. Bulbs, tubers and corms.
Here's my layout plan. Each segment is surrounded by paths for access.
I've moved the sweet William and planted spring flowering bulbs and popped in some perennials, so progress is as up to date as it can be. Most of the rest will be grown from seed either directly or in the greenhouse.

I want armfuls of flowers, bounteous abundance and a haven for bees and butterflies.

I'm obsessed with echinacea and have plans for around 4 colours, though it takes a while to establish. Worth the wait though!
I know what you're thinking - too much. Well I intend to grow more on the fruit plot, lower level flowers for the bees and some for pots at home. You just can't have enough flowers really...
Take care,
Sophie
